Transportation To Our Beautiful Wilderness

Air transport to the Masai Mara is available twice daily from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport via scheduled forty minute flights on air charter companies such as Air Kenya, Safarilink or Fly540 to one of several local airstrips near the Royal Mara. The preferred airstrips are Mara Shikar airstrip (15 min from the camp), Musiara airstrip (35 min from the camp) and Kichwa Tembo airstrip. Typical morning departure times leave Nairobi Wilson Airport at 10am, arrive in the Mara by 10:45am, depart from the Mara by 11am, and arrive back in Nairobi Wilson Airport by around 12pm. Typical afternoon departure flights leave Nairobi Wilson Airport by 3pm, arrive in the Mara by 3:45pm, depart from the Mara by 4pm, and arrive back in Nairobi Wilson Airport by around 5pm. Flight connections are also available between the Masai Mara and other game parks, as well as the coastal resort destinations of Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu. Air Kenya, Safarilink, Fly540, Kenya Airways, Mombasa Air and Blue Sky all provide daily flight service to and from the coast.

We provide complimentary roundtrip transportation between local airstrips and the camp for our game package guests. Roundtrip airfare charges from Nairobi run about USD $235 depending on the season. Weight limitations on soft bags not to exceed 15kg may apply. Baggage beyond the 15kg limit may incur additional charges per kg. Private charters are also available.

Please see the map below of the Masai Mara in relation to Nairobi and Lake Victoria.

The Royal Mara can also be reached by ground transportation from Nairobi via Narok town by a six hour overland drive over the B3 tarmac highway and the C13 unpaved road. The drive, although scenic for newly arrived tourists, can at times prove bumpy on the C13 road so we recommend the air flight connection for the maximum comfort of our guests.
