Transportation To Our Beautiful Wilderness

Air transport to the Masai Mara is available twice daily from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport via scheduled forty minute to one hour flights on air charter companies such as SafariLink, Air Kenya or Fly540 to the nearest local airstrip near the Royal Mara. The preferred airstrip is Mara North airstrip (10 min from the camp). Typical morning departure times leave Nairobi Wilson Airport at 10am, arrive in the Mara by 10:45am, depart from the Mara by 11am, and arrive back in Nairobi Wilson Airport by around 12-12:30pm. Typical afternoon departure flights leave Nairobi Wilson Airport by 3pm, arrive in the Mara by 3:45pm, depart from the Mara by 4pm, and arrive back in Nairobi Wilson Airport by around 5-5:30pm. Flight connections are also available between the Masai Mara and other game parks, as well as the coastal resort destinations of Diani Beach, Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu. SafariLink, Air Kenya, Fly540, Mombasa Air, Blue Sky, and Kenya Airways all provide daily flight service to and from the coast.

We provide complimentary roundtrip transportation for our safari guests between Mara North airstrip and the camp. Roundtrip airfare charges between Nairobi's Wilson Airport and the Masai Mara cost upwards of $300 depending on the season and not including taxes. Weight limitations apply on all checked-in luggage; the airlines prefer that clients bring soft bags that do not exceed a total weight of 15kg per person. Baggage beyond the 15kg limit per person may incur additional charges per kg subject to evaluation by airline staff. Private charters are also available at additional cost.

Please see the map below of the Masai Mara in relation to Nairobi and Lake Victoria.

The Royal Mara can also be reached by ground transportation from Nairobi via Narok town by a six hour overland drive over the B3 tarmac highway and the C13 unpaved road. The drive, although scenic for newly arrived tourists, can at times prove bumpy on the C13 road so we recommend the air flight connection for the maximum comfort of our guests.
